Florida is full of great beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. They don’t get much better than the fine beaches found throughout the Pinellas County area. With a total of 35 miles of beaches, you can certainly find something to fit your needs.
Fort Desoto Park’s North Beach
Located in South Pinellas County, Fort Desoto Park’s North Beach is a great choice. Lifeguards are on duty from March to Labor Day and there is a small concession stand for snacks. You will need to pay the small 35 cent toll each way and admission to the park is $5 per car.
Sand Key Beach
Found in Central Pinellas County, Sand Key Beach is a wonderful beach with plenty to offer. The lifeguards are on duty from March to Labor Day and you can enjoy a concession stand nearby. The Sheraton is also found on the beach with a bar, snack shop and more. You can even cook your own food on the few grills found under pavilions at Sand Key Beach.
Parking at the beach is metered at 75 cents per hour. There is a change machine nearby and the parking lot is very large.
Fred Howard Beach & Park
If you’re looking for a great beach in the northern section of Pinellas County, Fred Howard Beach & Park is the perfect choice. The lifeguards are on duty from March until Labor Day weekend and there are covered picnic areas with grills. You’re sure to enjoy the excellent views here, as well. Parking is $5 for a car for the day.
Clearwater Beach
By far the most popular beach in Pinellas County, Clearwater Beach provides lifeguards from 9:30am to 4:30pm year-round. There are a number of great restaurants and shops along the beach, as well. Clearwater Beach is also a popular spot for events, such as outdoor movies, and the Sunset Festival at the Pier.
You can enjoy para-sailing, fishing, Jet Ski rentals, volleyball and plenty of other activities here. Parking for the beach is $2.75 per hour, but will fill up fast. You can get a day pass for $10 to $16, as well.
Honeymoon Island Beach & Park
Another good choice in North Pinellas County is Honeymoon Island Beach & Park. This beach provides lifeguards on patrol from March to Labor Day. It’s a beautiful spot with a small concession stand available for snacks. Parking is only $8 for a car load.
If you’re looking for a great beach in Pinellas County, you won’t be disappointed. There are several excellent choices and these are just a few of the top beaches in the area.
