Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks
Another very popular attraction found in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater area is the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks. This attraction includes many sponge boats docked at Tarpon Springs. Since the area was settled by Greek immigrants and they found sea sponges to be very plentiful, it’s home to many Greek restaurants, shops and bakeries. You can shop on Dodecanese Boulevard or enjoy an authentic Greek meal, as well.
Fort De Soto Park
One of the most breathe-taking parks in the entire state of Florida, Fort De Soto Park provides a beautiful beach and over 1,000 acres on Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. It covers five islands and was voted as the “Best Beach for Families” by USA Today in 2014.
The park is more than just a place to go to the beach, however. It provides camping, kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing, boat launches, playgrounds and a historic fort. You may visit Fort De Soto Park for the beaches, but end up discovering so much more.
