Well more than 200,000 students attend school in the district, and it also happens to be the county’s largest employer.

The district includes 136 traditional K-5 elementary schools and nine K-8 schools. Parents considering a move to the area are often looking for a home and neighborhood close to high-performing schools, and several Tampa elementary schools make the list. In fact, several of the district’s elementary schools get high marks when it comes to student performance. 

Grady Elementary School

One of the highest rated public elementary schools in Tampa is Grady Elementary School. This building serves more than 500 students and has a student-teacher ratio of approximately 14-to-1.

Niche.com gives Grady an overall “A” grade. The school received high marks for academics, its teachers and its diversity. About 80-percent of students in this highly-rated public school are considered to be proficient in reading and math.

MacFarlane Park Magnet School

Another top performing school for younger students in Tampa is MacFarlane Park Magnet School. Niche also gives MacFarlane Park an overall “A”. The school received an “A+” for diversity, an “A” for academics and a “B+” for teachers. 

The school serves around 370 students from grades K-5, with a student-teacher ratio of around 15-to-one. About 82-percent of students at MacFarlane are considered to be proficient in reading and math.

Chiles Elementary School

Not to be overlooked, Chiles Elementary School in Tampa serves nearly 900 students, with a student-teacher ratio of around 16-to-one. Niche gives Chiles Elementary an overall “A-“.

The school received an “A+” for diversity, an “A” for academics and a “B+” for its teachers. About 83-percent of students are proficient in math and about 76-percent of students at Chiles are proficient in reading. The school serves kids in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.

Roland Park Magnet School

Another Tampa magnet school also ranks high. Roland Park Magnet School received an “A-“ from Niche.com. The school serves around 770 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. 

Roland Park received an “A+” for diversity and an “A-“ for academics and teachers. This highly-rated magnet school boasts a math proficiency rate of around 81-percent, and a reading proficiency rate of around 78-percent.

Gorrie Elementary School

Gorrie Elementary School serves kids from pre-K through fifth grade in Tampa. The public elementary school received an overall Niche grade of “A- “. This includes an “A” for academics, and an “A-“ for diversity and teachers. 

Gorrie has around 570 students and boasts a student-teacher ratio of around 15-to-one. About 86-percent of the school’s students are proficient in math. Around 84-percent are proficient in reading.
