Best St. Petersburg Neighborhoods Near New Rays Stadium

The new Rays stadium in St. Petersburg, FL, represents a bold step forward for the team, the city, and the fans. With its modern design, advanced technology, and community-centered approach, the stadium is poised to become a landmark destination. And, if you’re looking to live nearby, we’ve compiled a short list of the best St. Petersburg neighborhoods close to the ballpark.

Historic Roser Park

Known as St. Petersburg's 'first neighborhood,' Historic Roser Park is indeed very historic. The residential development was the first of its kind in the area when initially constructed back in 1911. Over a century later and many original homes still stand. If anything, they've only become better – and shadier, as the trees along the neighborhood's brick-lined streets and sidewalks continue to mature. Lush greenery is one of Roser Park's most defining features. The homes themselves are an eclectic mix of architectural styles, from Craftsman bungalows to Mediterranean revivals. Residents enjoy easy access to downtown St. Petersburg's vibrant arts and culture scene, as well as the tranquil waterfront parks along Tampa Bay. Those in search of louder outings will appreciate Historic Roser Park's close proximity to the new Rays Stadium, which is part of a $6.5 billion redevelopment project in the nearby Historic Gas Plant District.

Grand Central District

Head west of downtown St. Petersburg and you'll enter the Grand Central District – a tight-knit, bustling community with plenty of great homes to show for itself. The neighborhood was first established in 2000, so it's still relatively new compared to other parts of the city. But that doesn't mean it lacks character or charm. Quite the opposite, in fact. The area has quickly become known for its unique mix of locally-owned businesses, art galleries, and trendy restaurants and bars. It will also be a great place for sports fans when the new Rays stadium is completed in January 2025. In the meantime, residents of Grand Central District are still a mere minutes away from where Tampa's much-loved baseball team currently plays, at Tropicana Field.

Downtown St. Petersburg

Downtown St. Petersburg is home to a wealth of beautiful homes ranging in style, size, and age. But while those three things tend to be important considerations for buyers, it's hard to let any become a dealbreaker when you consider the location itself. Living downtown means being in the center of the city's action. Residents can walk to top-rated restaurants, trendy bars, unique shops, and world-class museums. The Dali Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, and Mahaffey Theater are all just steps away. The housing options are just as diverse as the entertainment. Condos and townhomes offer low-maintenance living with stunning views of the bay or city skyline. Historic homes, some dating back to the 1920s, have been lovingly restored and updated with modern amenities. One of the biggest draws of downtown living is the ability to ditch the car and walk or bike everywhere. In Tampa specifically, that includes the new Rays stadium, which is a few blocks southwest of Downtown St. Petersburg.

Historic Uptown

Lots of cities have 'Historic Uptown' districts, but few are like St. Petersburg's. Bordering 5th Avenue and 4th Street near downtown, the Historic Uptown neighborhood offers easy access to the best of both worlds: big city amenities and small-town charm. The streets are lined with towering oak trees that provide plenty of shade for afternoon strolls. Residents can walk to local favorites like Hawker's Asian Street Food, Maple Street Biscuit Company, and Black Crow Coffee. The neighborhood is also home to several parks, including Crescent Lake Park which features a playground, tennis courts, and a scenic walking trail around the lake. For those who want to venture further afield, literally, the new Rays stadium will be the closest place to go as soon as construction wraps up.

Warehouse Arts District

The Warehouse Arts District is a uniquely passion-driven slice of St. Petersburg, Florida. It's run by a non-profit organization that exists for the sole purpose of promoting local creators' individual projects and businesses. Former industrial buildings have been transformed into galleries, studios, and performance spaces with walls adorned by colorful murals by home-grown talents. Speaking of homes, there's a wide variety on offer in this neighborhood. Most options are on the smaller side, averaging two bedrooms in size. Newer condos and townhomes have a bit less living area but come equipped with the latest appliances and finishes. With the Edge Shopping and Dining District, Grand Central District, and future home of the Tampa Bay Rays within walking distance, residents of any property are usually outside, anyway.
