A Closer Look at Seminole Heights Homes For Sale
A huge part of the old bungalows in Seminole Heights date back to the 1900s. In fact, the area is known for its historic craftsmen style bungalows. The architecture in the community is largely dominated by different bungalow styles, examples are the Tudor and Colonial Revival. A number of homes in the community are part of the National Register of Historic Places, and a huge part can be seen during the annual event they call as the “Tour of Homes”. Many of buildings existed in the area at the said era, including the Seminole Heights Methodist Church, Seminole Heights Elementary School, Broward Elementary, Hillsborough High School, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Why Seminole Heights is a Great Place to Call Home
The atmosphere at Seminole Heights is warm and friendly, that’s why a lot of people from different age groups live in the area. And as of the moment, interest in the said community is growing and is as high as it was back in the 1920s. This is partly because of its location; it is at the center and very conveniently near downtown Tampa.
In the past few years, Seminole Heights has experienced an increase in property values and a decrease in crimes. The area is quite popular among the young professionals and their families who are looking for an alternative to the master planned communities.
A Look Back: History of the Seminole Heights Neighborhood
Seminole Heights was somewhat “born” in the year 1911. Roy Young had 40 acres of land to develop the first suburb in Tampa, which is three miles north of the downtown area. A decade before that, the population in Tampa had reached 26,000. A trolley line connected the Sulphur Springs to the downtown area, making travel to the area possible. Moreover, the streetcar made it possible to live within the suburbs, yet work in another area.
Young has recognized this potential, and thus made Seminole Development Corporation encompass a rectangle bordered by the Hillborough Avenue, Central Avenue, Wilder Avenue, as well as the Florida Avenue. The houses built here were bungalows, oriented east-to-west.
Other developments in the area quickly followed. And by 1912, the Mutual Development Company and the Dekle Investment Company surveyed and platted land near Seminole Heights. This formed the Suwanee Heights subdivision.
And during the “Florida Bloom” years, from 1919 to 1929, more development came to the areas at the north and east of the original subdivisions. The development came to the merchants who saw an opportunity to provide goods and services to the residents.
