There are some exciting things in the works for Tampa right now that are coming soon or just arrived. It’s going to make your summer extra special and unique this year that will make you wonder how we didn’t have these things sooner.

You’ve always enjoy a good boat ride on the Bay or catching a cab ride to enjoy the excitement of downtown, but now you’ll be able to see these areas in a new and exciting way. Introducing: newbies to the Tampa scene, Kraken Cycleboats, The Downtowner, The Cross-Bay Ferry-High Speed Ferry, and more! Take a look at these exciting additions and new changes such as extended TECO Streetcar Hours to hit Tampa this year just in time for some fun in the sun.

New Waterfront Park

If you haven’t heard of the Curtis Hixon Waterfront yet, you’ll want to check it out on your next day off. There is so much to do here being in the heart of the Tampa Riverwalk. You’ll find easy access to museums, the Florida Aquarium, and other exciting entertainment venues. You’ll also be near some of the best Tampa restaurants.

You’ll end up spending your whole day here in downtown Tampa. You can find this park starting at the Tampa Museum of Art, going north to the dog park where you’ll see the Straz Center for Performing Arts, and extending to the area with the Tampa Convention Center where you’ll find the TECO Streetcar taking you to The Florida Aquarium or Ybor City.

Rock the Park – Free Concert

Who doesn’t love live music and even more so, free live music? Pay a visit to the new Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park every first Thursday of the month to check out a free concert that all ages will enjoy. It’s going to start at 6:30pm where you’ll want to bring some camping chairs or your hammock, the kids, the dogs, and a picnic or cash for some grub downtown for the ultimate experience.

TECO Streetcar’s Extended Hours

You’ve already loved the TECO Streetcar for all of your downtown transportation needs, but this year, the streetcar is offering you even more riding options than ever. With the new extended hours, you won’t have to worry about getting rides at 7am on weekdays or after a late night visit to downtown bars on a Friday night.

The hours will now start at 7am or 6:44am until noon every 30 minutes on Monday through Thursday and then go from noon until 10pm every 20 minutes on those days. On Fridays, hop on at the same time in the morning as the other weekdays, but enjoy access from 11am-midnight every 20 minutes. You’ll also get 11am-midnight (every 20 minutes) access on Saturdays, and on Fridays and Saturdays only, you can get midnight-2am service every 30 minutes! Then on Sundays, enjoy noon until 8pm services every 20 minutes.

The Downtowner

Speaking of Downtown, you may want to skip the cab ride and just ride around for free. The Downtowner is coming to the area to provide a fun and free transportation option all week long. You can download the app to find it and catch a ride start at 6am until 11pm. This is brought to downtown from The Tampa Downtown Partnership and other supporters that wanted to provide a completely free, green, and effective transportation option to the area.

Kraken Cycleboats and the new Ferry

If you’d rather spend your summer on the water, check out the exciting new additions of the Kraken Cycleboats, a pedal-powered pub on the water, and the Cross-Bay Ferry-High Speed Ferry that cruises between downtown Tampa and St. Pete. The ferry can take you one way for $10 on its 147-passenger catamaran that takes less than an hour to arrive at destination. Kraken Cycleboats is the new ay to enjoy a drink on the water for you and your friends that want to pedal your way around the Bay.
